Storytelling and Performance Workshop for Sex Workers

I facilitated my pilot workshop “Performance and Storytelling for Sex Workers” in San Francisco, CA in March 2023. As someone with experience in the industry, I hoped that would tip the hierarchies between myself and my participants, leveling it to be more horizontal. I did not want to come in as an expert, but as someone who could hold space for others in their experience.

I also made sure that my participants knew they could withdraw their consent at any moment, Even up to the point of sharing in from of an audience. This is vital to the process of consent and building trust.

We had 4 sessions together, a few individual meetings, and we finished with a Salon of Results in about 3 weeks time. I purposefully did not call it a performance to take the pressure off. It was a sharing of a work in progress.
